I've been quiet the past few months on GSP social media. I think that 2020 was hard for all of us, especially for those of us coaching athletes who couldn't even train in a facility, let alone compete!
I don't usually brag publicly about the clients I work with, but I was so happy to attend a recent racquetball tournament where 6 of them competed, bringing home 5 medals in the process. Most importantly, I saw a lot of heart, refusal to quit, and a desire to compete to the very end, win or lose. I saw a lot of honest, fair play too, which is important to me as a coach. They don't just represent themselves, but me and GSP as well.
Why do I love coaching? Well, here's why. One of my athletes was in a back and forth match that went to a tiebreaker. Over an hour later, they found themselves in a tiebreaker. Both were exhausted, but I saw my athlete maintain their composure, never quit, and squeak out the win.
Match over, the athlete exits, and immediately came to find me. "I couldn't have won without you." I'm sure that athlete will never forget that win. I know I won't.
